An action painting, that of Gayle Printz. A painting in which the knights of darkness fight their eternal battle against the guardians of light. Printz’s painting is strong, instinctive, and has its most important element in the power of the sign. Through what I want to define as her “saber slashes” of light, the artist manages to bring truly important themes to canvas. The artist opens her world to the viewer. A painting that was born during the darkness of the pandemic, which is fought and defeated through light. Hers is a painting of salvation. A type of painting that rises to new light from the dark caves of the psyche. The brushstrokes have the same evocative force as the 10 commandments. “True chromatic hurricanes” hit the canvas, making it become a battlefield, in which goodness and eternal beauty always win. Her works are testimony to how even a self-taught artist can achieve extraordinary results through her art. A painting that crosses the boundaries of knowledge, to explore the most hidden places of the human mind. Through her painting, Gayle takes us into a hypothetical labyrinth wanted by Minos. The spectator (the modern Theseus) following Ariadne’s thread (traced by the artist) thus finds himself having to solve the enigma of the Minotaur. This enigma actually corresponds to the symbolic and chromatic beauty through which Gayle Printz traces the foundations for a new contemporary informal painting. Her sign does not seem “locked up” in any known Cartesian axis; the sign is left free to follow the artist’s brilliant pictorial thought. The bystander who finds himself in front of her compositions cannot help but look at them in lush silence, in order to grasp their true essence. A painting that does not follow any shortcut, visual or conceptual, but which has its most correct interpretation in the essence of memory and the beauty of the narrated.
